Fish (Ditebogo Tlhapi) joins Worr Driver Academy
Ditebogo Tlhapi AKA Fish joined Worr Motorsports this month to learn the art of race driving from the best go karting school in South Africa, the Worr Driver Academy. Hailing from the North West, Fish has had a love for racing from a young age and has now found the time to pursue his passion starting at the first step to becoming a professional driver: join a karting team and learn to drive a go kart.
I’m taking a chance with something I enjoy
“I used to have many toy cars, loved the fast and furious movies, playing need for speed and really had a fascination with racing growing up.” Said Fish. He goes on to say, “After I finished matric, I really wanted to do something I enjoy, something I really love so I joined Worr.” After 2 gruelling days of evaluation and training, coach Thando Mnyada is positive about the progress saying “He started off the general go karting person with a love for speed and is already showing potential kart racer skills, almost enough to compete next season. We’re going to continue working with him until he’s 100% ready to compete for honours.”
Pathway to the pinnacle of motorsport
Thando was quite happy with the progress of the new academy driver while training at the Vereeniging kart circuit. He continued to say that Fish had adapted to the race go karts faster than many. With Worr he would be able to tap into the vast network for an opportunity at Formula 4 after he has proven himself in karting. This pathway to the pinnacle of motorsport is available for all Worr Driver Academy graduates and team members as the next step towards Formula 1. Fish is determined to make the most of the journey.
Fish will continue with the program for the next few months and hopes to be race ready in time for the start of the season. We look forward to seeing what he can produce and watching his growth as a driver.
