“Lwashu has never done indoor go karting.” Lwashu’s Mom
Go Karting is an activity that is easily available in many parts of the country through rental karts that drive indoor circuits. These circuits are fun and give the avid driver with little experience or knowledge a chance to test their skills. With a small window into the outdoor karting for sport competitions I found that the pace and skill needed exceeds the friendly banter of the indoor circuit. Eager to find out why Lwashu became a go kart aficionado I asked his mom how he got introduced to the sport.
“I always knew some things about it because I love speed, so took the time to find out what I could do for him (Lwashu) from a friend. He was supposed to start earlier but we eventually started at Bambino, and he got 6 trophies in 6 months.” Wondering if he had an affinity for racing because of an indoor experience she replied with an emphatic “O, no! He hasn’t even been. I think he doesn’t even want to.”
Tiro: “karting was meant to clear my mind and getting in a better space”
Tiro, an academy graduate often found go karting outdoors a difficult experience as he was getting use to the fast pace of competition. He started at an indoor kart circuit and often goes back saying “I have fun because I can handle it well and do fast times against my friends”.
Outdoor circuits tend to offer more speed due to the size and lengths of the straights. The difficulties lie in the negotiation of corners, machinery used and the differences in conditions. As a result, the outdoor circuits demand more from a driver as an indoor circuit would. Stricter rules also demand a driver show more patients, race craft and caution. So, if you enjoy indoor karting on a Friday night with friends I recommend trying outdoors on a Saturday Afternoon.
