Team Worr set Zwartkops raceway alight this past weekend with fantastic driving from all drivers participating. Heats were hot with a field of experienced competitors going up against a Worr driver for each category. Holding there own against the best in the region were rookie sensation Ethan, title contenders Lwashu and Kiyaan, and led by the dominant Gianna Pascoal. Qualifiers went off smoothly with Coach Wes taking the chance to complete final testing for the new configurations for some drivers.

Ethan outside the podium

First up was our bambino driver Ethan. Our youngest driver going up against a more experienced Zwartkops field qualified in midfield. All 3 heats started clean, with Ethan holding his position firmly as he waited for mistakes from the field. Heat 3’s highlight was a closer race for P3 with Ethan edging closer to the leaders by trusting his machine to perform. His pace was much improved from his previous showing at Formula K. He finished the day claiming P4 just outside of the podium. Coach Mox from development was happy with the performance and aims to develop the young driver more for a podium finish in the next race weekend he participates in.

Lwashu races to second

Lwashu (who isn’t a stranger to Zwartkops) was up next with a settled P2 qualification as his kart performance and his improvements deserved. The second session began with a slow start from Lwashu that saw him loose a position for the first 3 laps. Coming into turn 1 of lap 4 milliseconds behind, Lwashu capitalised on his momentum to take a late break into the inside to reclaim P2. With the race close for P2 for a majority of the race Lwashu Finally broke away from the pack to chase down P1 but with limited laps remaining he could only maintain his position. The last heat saw a similar start with Lwashu loosing ground to a more aggressive competitor. Unfortunately, the defensive tactics of the driver now in P2 hampered Lwashu’s chances of regaining his starting position. He finished the day in a delightful P2.

Kiyaan was Reddi

Kiyaan had a disappointing qualifier that landed him in an uncomfortable midfield start. In his first heat he showed his brilliance at the start climbing multiple places before the first corner. He began heat 2 within touch distance of the front pack. Watched by a large contingent of Worr supporters taht came out to Zwartkops, Kiyaan made a giant leap to the front of the pack to the excitement of the crowd and drove through the beginning of the heat at the front of the pack. His competitors seized their chance at the exact corner he surprised them on to place him in P2. His performance was encouraging as he not only gained the respect of the crowd but made his contingent proud. He ultimately finished the day in a respectable P6.

All Hail G

Coming off the back of FIA Academy race weekends, Gianna came to test her brand-new chassis and acclimatise to it in race conditions on a perfect Zwartkops weekend. Her dominance was felt from the onset with a P1 qualification and breathing room ahead of the pack from start to finish in all 3 heats. The distinct helmet rushed down to Turn 1 already milliseconds ahead of her closest competitor. With familiar foes behind her she used her laser sharp focus, established strength and her reliable package to run a smooth weekend with no surprises. She ended the weekend with a P1 finish.

“All, in all a good weekend with some good driving. We can never truly be satisfied until we have those world championships in our hands. Our driver development is key to this and we’ll continue to strive for the best out of each and every one of them. We are looking forward to Cape Town next weekend and we’ll be able to gage our progress further.” Concluded coach Wes.
