The Worr Race Team revisited Killarney International for another race weekend. The team was met with perfect conditions well represented by star performers. The qualifiers were a mixed bag with some unusual results and uncharacteristic mechanical disasters in reliable equipment. Cape Town being Cape Town also saw ever changing conditions that needed quick judgement from the pits. Our drivers embraced the challenges while our crew worked its magic to limit the reliability issues and the Worr Team achieved positive results.
Lwashu Masters Killarney
Lwashu came into Killarney riding high from a special performance at Zwartkops. In a much bigger, more competitive field at Killarney, Lwashu went into practice with renewed fury in acceleration keeping the competitors at bay with consistent top 10 times. Qualifying was a whole new experience with the rain dredging the track and exposed his limited experience in the wet. He qualified P22. Like all the greats, Lwashu was not to be counted out. On race day, Lwashu mastered Killarney, he rose up the train with a superb show of race craft on regular intervals. He completed the day P8, 14 places from where he started.
Kiyaan’s mechanical issues
Kiyaan came into the weekend also off an impressive Zwartkops weekend confident in another stellar showing. Practice was quite hopeful but like the rest of the weekend, all sessions were marred by mechanical issues. Qualifying in midfield, he had his trademark blistering start in all 3 heats. From the throttle cable getting stuck to the chain breaking on the first lap of Race 3, Cape Town was a weekend to forget for our young driver. With a long season ahead Coach Wes is confident that after the reliability issues are resolved Kiyaan will be one to watch.
Pascoal’s Gamble
Gianna faced a much bigger field of competitors. She engaged in some compelling battles for the front of the pack during the 1st heat earning a P3 finish. The tricky CPT conditions continued, and the team gambled on a late tyre switch for heat 2. Starting far behind the leaders, Gianna sliced through the midfield to chase the front bunch. She finished in a positive P5, earning enough to still be within touching distance of a podium finish. Unfortunately, she was not immune to the reliability issues that plagued the team. Her starter motor jammed before the start of heat 3, ruining her chance for a podium finish.
Jesse, a serious contender
Jesse came into the weekend from a break but with the same desire to raise the stakes. He executed a stunning qualifier earning a P2 start. He warmed up in the rain and showed remarkable growth perfectly executing around Killarney during practice. Starting the heats on the outside during mixed conditions was not ideal and a rough race turned from P2 to lower down the order. A rough race ended in a respectable finish. For heat 2, Jesse went with wet tires against a field with slicks. The gamble didn’t yield the exact results hoped for but a respectable P7 was achieved. Heat 3 was a fight to the finish with Jesse holding on to the midfield with continuous moves to the front. With the end in sight, he pushed through the start line for the final lap and regrettably, his chain snapped to end his ambitions for points.
Ahsaan was absent from practice and used this race weekend as a way to get back up to speed. He had come from a school camp skipping the Friday session but enjoying his racing over the weekend. He took strides forward in pace during the sessions and showed confidence behind the wheel. Coach Wes took the time to assess the young star and believes he – like many of our drivers – deserves a place in the front pack of the coming races this season.
“Yea, overall, a tough weekend, a lot of positives, but when we not finishing races it’s hard to put the results down. All our drivers are doing well, and pace is definitely” Concluded Coach Wes. As the Worr Race Team looks ahead to the race weekend he believes that the talent of the drivers will continue to shine through and produce great results.
