The Killarney race weekend was a mixed bag of results with more positives. A tough weekend, Worr drivers did a good job on track with some unfortunate incidents hindering their progress. Killarney proved tricky as always, but it was no match for the in-form drivers that took part.

Hard luck for Jose

Jose Slamet went into race day on the back foot. He encountered a coil problem in Heat 1. He struggled through the heat with a kart that had very little power. The mechanics worked quickly on the problem before the start of Heat 2 but it persisted, only frustrating drivers Saturday even more. The problem was finally resolved for the 3rd and final heat. Jose started near the bottom end of the grid and with his kart firing on all cylinders Jose proved to be the fastest kart on track, but it was too late to make a significant impact on the days results.

Kiyaan was Reddi to rok

The explosive Kiyaan started heat 1 of this race weekend with his elbows out, making his way to the front of the pack when he was unfortunately involved in a crash. The crash ruled him out of contention for heat 2 but the mechanics put in some extra grit to get him back on the grid for the final heat. Kiyaan came off the bench and like Jose also made a great comeback eventually earning himself a P4 finish in the heat.

Lwashu strives for the Top

Lwashu kept on showing the team his true potential on this race weekend. Qualifying may have been tumultuous, but he kept his pace upfront. He drove maturely with a good balance of speed and breaking against the more experienced field he took on just 2 weeks ago to end in an improved P5. “Podium finish is just illusive, but Lwashu will start seeing more of them this season because he’s dedicated and getting faster every week.” Shared coach Wes.

Jesse is coming out

Jesse came out swinging for the fences. He started his Saturday just behind the front pack and ended heat 1 with a 5th place finish. For his second outing Jesse used the indecisions of his competitors to his advantage to scoop up positions and the misfortune of his teammate was his gain as he surged to a 2nd place finish in heat 2. Hyped by his performance Jesse was ready to leave the pit lane for heat 3 only to discover his engine wouldn’t start. Mechanics showed their metal again to resolve the problem before the start of the race, but the race Marshals wouldn’t let him join.

High G

Gianna just needs reliable equipment and the South African OKN leader will show you how to win. She was riding high with incredible pace the whole weekend as reliability issues seem to be behind the team. But as with many of the other drivers, something unexpected popped up to hinder the dominance. During the second heat, Gianna went from pole to finish 5th due to a cracked fuel filter. This was fixed before the last heat of the day and Gianna smashed the track record on her way to a 1st place finish and maximum points towards her SA championship campaign. Those vital points place Gianna 1st in the Championship.

Andriambelo's Hello

Straight out of Madagascar, Andriambelo managed expectations with the help of coach Wes. Andriambelo drove Redstar a few weeks ago against Worr and now he’s within the right structure. This race weekend enjoyed testing and qualifiers under the watchful eye of coach Wes and he improved his race performance from 3 seconds off the pace a few weeks ago to mere milliseconds. This earned him a 6th place finish during his first race for Worr, a solid hello to team Worr. With such strides made from a change in suit, we look forward to watching Andriambelo this season as he works closely with the team.

Aaryan domination

The Worr import reinforcement was the dominator in his category. Aaryan was completely dominant in the 1st heat of the weekend with a lead from start to finish. He went into heat 2 with his ordinary confidence until Cape Town reared its Killarney Head and the champ spun out. Without checks, Aaryan went into heat 3 unwilling to release the accelerator. He surged ahead of the field to finish in P1. The victory was of such a margin coach Wes was busy with an interview before the competitors reached the pits. In a Farrari like twist, our future Lewis Hamilton was disqualified post-race. This was due to being slightly underweight.

Mechanics Amaze

“The mechanics did an amazing job this weekend to keep it all together. I’m quite happy for Gianna as the new leader of the OKN national rankings. We had some bad luck this weekend with minor issues, missteps and some of our drivers showed their inexperience at times. We’ll continue to work on these things. We’re also happy about our general pace so podiums will start to come in thick and fast.” Coach Wes concluded.
