Vereeniging Karting Circuit is the ultimate karting track. For decades, legends like Wesleigh Orr called this their home track. It has been the testing grounds for Worr since inception and will now be hosting the National 2nd round this weekend. Gianna Pascoal and Mo Wally will be featuring for Worr in what will be a thrilling weekend of racing. When making your way to these hallowed grounds where legends are made, it is advised you do not take a short cut, detour or try something different, or you’ll find yourself lost in an urban jungle.
VKC is a prestene FIA approved circuit with clean fields, highstands that allow for full circuit view and under cover pit area. The track has hosted many events over the years as a regular feature on the South African Championships, Rok and Rotax series. It has been the ideal location for Worr Drivers to practice, test and race due to its pace. Since 1996, Wesleigh Orr has appreciated the qualities of the track for driver development and has used it to nurture talents that will be on display over the weekend. From the bigger hitters, Gianna and Mo, to the next big thing Lwashu, Jesse and more, we are confident our drivers will defend the fort.
Urban Jungle to VKC
Unfortunately for the rest of Vereeniging, times have changed and it cannot keep up with the excellence of VKC. Each route to each track has its own challenges and Vereeniging is no different. There is, however, an extreme side that a traveller may not encounter any longer, but it is worth a note for future travels.
The road to VKC is quite decent and city like in some aspects. A few weeks ago, the main road was under construction so you had to take another route to get to the track. Coach Mox and I had to take detours into an Urban Jungle to make our way to VKC. With a turn that makes logical sense, we found ourselves wondering in-between what looked like road pavement in search of asphalt. We navigated the ditches, sink holes, rivers and lakes to make our way to the next possible intersection where we could possibly find our destination. We abandoned our first attempted turn as the waters were too high. Our second chance came with far less waters and more caution. The route had already claimed a tire as a motorist was stranded in the middle of the stream. We made it safely out with the guidance of coach Mox.
The rally experience – though thrilling – is not an ideal experience before a race. So when driving to VKC over the weekend it is advisable to avoid detours into the suburb. VKC has great food and refreshments available on the premises with quite a few options nearby. We look forward to this weekends racing and wish all our drivers the best of luck.
