The Rotax round 3 at iDube Raceway was a good showing for the senior Worr drivers with Troy Snymans return to face the dominant Gianna Pascoal. Mini and Juniors came out of exam season to put some points on the board. Drivers Lwashu, Kyaan and Ashaan joined the seniors at iDube.
Juniors struggle
The Worr Juniors joined the team on Saturday morning straight after a difficult exam week. All drivers had a subpar showing but not as bad as expected by coach Wes after weeks off the track. Lwashu and Kiyaan shook the dust off with a P17 and P12 finish in a strong field. Ashaan could only manage a P10. “We just need to do more robust training with our juniors and get more track time under their belt. They have shown us countless times they all have something special and with a bit more work we can get more podiums out of them.” Coach Wes said about the performance of the junior drivers.
Gianna and Troy at Rotex R3 iDube
Fresh off a round of FIA academy weekend in Italy Gianna met her new teammate Troy Snyman at iDube. Troy came out of a long academic break to join Worr at round 3. At his home track, Troy showed impressive pace and race craft to qualify P1 ahead of Gianna in P3. Race 1, with Troy setting the pace from the start was met with Gianna immediately taking P2. Gianna took over halfway through the race with Troy losing another position at the same corner 2 laps later. 3rd in the standings Gianna increased her while Troy made it back to P2. A cleaner race from team meant a smoother drive all the way to the finish line with a 1.5 second lead for Gianna and 6 tenths ahead of P3 for Troy.
Gianna managed a p3 while Troy managed a P5 start. She took an immediate P2 behind the pole sitter while troy maintained a P5. Gianna took the lead in lap 3 after a defensive move gone wrong. As Troy was getting the momentum to take P3 a turn without looking resulted in a collision to demote our driver to last. Gianna broke away from the pack once more as Troy worked his way back up to P13.
Setting P3 and 4 times to start race 3, our drives aimed to finish the day on the podium. Gianna moved straight to P2 as Troy lost a single position for a moment. Troy made it behind Gianna in the 2nd lap, 6 tenths behind his teammate. Gianna was already making the moves for first and lap 4 was time for the “1st lady” to take her place in front. Troy joined her for second as the pole sitters error cost 3 places. Troy struggled to shake of P3, a tenth behind. As the drivers prepared to lap a struggling driver, troy lost P2. The fight for second intensified in lap 10 with 2 more drivers joining the fight. Troy took it back in lap 12 before losing 2 places in lap 13. An amazing race ended with a last stitch effort that lost Troy 1 more place to end his day with a P5.
“Seniors are doing quite well… Troy is coming off a long break and still has that craft and pace to lead the way. With Gianna keeping consistent, William making moves and more, our seniors are very exciting. We just need to improve on our other categories, we do have the potential and just need to work harder to get the results.” Concludes coach Wes.
