So much Worr at Zwartkops

Last weekend was a rain drenched test for Worr Motorsport drivers at Zwartkop Raceway. Worr was represented across 3 categories with the return of Siya and the sensational Ngobeni brothers. Not to be outshined, Jorden showed his pedigree in the wet and Zuan showed that it is time for him to get to the front of the grid.

Ngobeni Bambino

Muhluri arrived at the track looking for a mid-grid finish. From warmup he performed well enough to settle in a decent position which he improved in qualifying. The top 3 bambinos were 3 seconds ahead in each lap from the rest of the field and Muhluri found himself fighting for P4 in race 2. Our Bambino driver finished P5 and concluded race 3 in P6. As his parents stood proud, Muhluri returned to the pits a happy man to a happy group of support staff.

Senior Maxing Maxed

Senior Max lived up to the billing. It was a highly competitive race with Siya, Anele and Jorden. Anele using a new chassis adapted to the wet, Siya struggled to stay on pace and Jorden… Well, Jorden mastered the rain without a wet suite on. Qualifying P3, Jorden was in no mood to follow winning race 1 over 5 seconds ahead. Race 2 with dry weather started disastrously with Jorden starting P6 even though he qualified P2. This was due to the grid changing tires to slicks before the race which delayed the start. To save time, race control made the executive decision to allow competitors on track how they’re lined up in the pits. With a dryer track on slicks, Siya climbed up the grid with great pace to earn a P3 finish. Anele had a horrible Race 2 & 3 with problems ruining a weekend with great potential.

Zuan Ngobeni Jnr

Team expectations were high for decent placement in the Jnr Max race. This race category had Worrs future champions in it to judge their progress against a competitive field. Well-known track master Lulama qualified in a decent P8 behind fellow future superstar Zuan in P4. Starting behind podium position, Zuan showed outstanding skill in the rain to take over P3. Race 1 had an anticlimactic end with him in the pits 3 laps in because of reckless driving from an aggressive driver in P4. Lulama held his own staying out of trouble until the dry conditions of Race 2. He was involved in a giant pile up on turn 1. Zuan found himself in P1 for 3 laps from this incident. Nervous moments before the tunnel eventually turned into a spin on lap 6 that lost him the win. Both Families watched tentatively as both boys fought valiantly throughout all three races. “We just need some good luck with these boys. Both are fast and very skilled. Sometimes nerve plays a part but on days like today they just needed a clean run.” These were the views of Coach Mox about the Juniors.

He continued that “Overall, the boys did well and showed us what they can do away from a practice session. We always have work to do to improve performance, but this was a good race weekend with 3 different conditions.” when asked about his views about the whole weekend.
