A big field entered into the Worr Academy Race Round 2 with plenty of different levels of driver vying to tune up their skills. Experience had the field separated with quite a few surprises in each category. Learning was the name of the game and our Academy Race delivered that and a huge number of exciting battles on track.

First Class Racing

Our senior race was blessed by the return of Troy Snyman, back after a year off competitive karting. The drives saw strong performances all around. Our senior academy race saw multiple lead changes ranging from a very strong performance by the first ever academy race winner Lulama to previous round antagonist Thato. Each round brought changes to elevate a drivers skills from a change in the starting order to more weight on a kart. Guest and new drivers had the opportunity to compete in different conditions with the aim of learning something new.

Our Junior drivers were out to impress with a surprisingly outstanding performance by newcomer Tshendo who lead despite the disadvantages he was given. Advantages were given to level the field and a robust competition emerged. This tested the skills of drives like Ethan and Muhluri while improving the defence and attack of Rifuwo and Ithan. “Our juniors still have a lot to learn but they are all on the right track. You can see they are timing overtakes better already.” Said coach Mox.

Mechanics Joy

The Mechanics team worked harder than the drivers fixing karts between rounds with very few mechanical errors happening on track. With a wide range of drivers, they had to keep a frantic pace to ensure every kart gets back on track. Incidents were quickly rectified to ensure the show goes on. With only Worr Drivers on track the academy race ensured that our mechanics team learns as much from the racing as the drivers do.

“We put up a field of over 20 drivers. Some of the experience filters down to see drivers like Akira 2 seconds faster than he was a week ago. This is what it’s all about. The growth is phenomenal in just a few days.” States coach Wes reflecting on the drivers after round 2.

Upcoming Academy Race

The academy senior and junior race for June has been rescheduled to take place on the 9th of May. More experienced drivers are set to join the series as guests to improve the skills of the academy class. Sim said of the academy race “It’s great cause you’re driving against people you know. You drive better cause you don’t have that burning desire to win at all costs.”

We look forward to another round of the academy class very soon. To join the race, join Worr Motorsports today.
